Start With the Right Hole Size.

As a rule of thumb, finished material is often roughly half the screen-hole size. Material type, moisture and cutting-tip condition can change real-world output.

Selection guide

What to Consider Before You Order.

The best screen setup is a system decision—not just a hole-size decision.

01

Material Type

Clean wood, mixed debris, green waste and construction material all grind differently. Tough or stringy material may benefit from a tighter opening or specialized pattern.

02

Moisture Content

Wet brush, compost and fresh-cut limbs behave differently from dry wood. Open-flow patterns such as diamond or hex can help keep damp material moving.

03

Final Product Goals

Fine, uniform mulch or compost typically calls for smaller holes, while primary grinding and volume reduction can use larger openings for higher throughput.

04

Grinder Setup

Tub grinders commonly pair well with round or hex patterns. Horizontal grinders often benefit from square or rectangular openings that let material move through faster.

Operator Tip

If output looks rough or stringy even with the right screen, inspect cutting tips. Dull or unevenly worn tips can make the screen work harder than it should.
